    Within the contemporary multitude of complex methods used in clinical flow cytometry, very few techniques exist which can be described as disease-specific diagnostic tests. This report reviews the general principles in flow cytometry and selected applications of flow cytometry in the clinical hematology laboratory. Light scattering at different angles can distinguish differences in size and internal complexity, whereas light emitted from fluorescently labeled antibodies can identify a wide array of cell surface and cytoplasmic antigens.

    Clinically, pnh is a syndrome characterized by bone marrow failure, acquired hemolytic anemia, and a thrombotic tendency. In this article, we review the complimentary roles that molecular biology and flow cytometry have played in unraveling the genotypic and phenotypic aspects of this unique condition. This approach makes flow cytometry a powerful tool for detailed analysis of complex populations in a short period of time.
